All CCC staff are trained in adult/infant CPR & first aid annually. Fire extinguisher training is also offered.
Evacuation Routes
A map (PDF) is available online. Parents should familiarize themselves with it in order to be prepared in case of emergency.
Fire Drills
Fire drills are carried out once monthly.
An alarm will sound, and following the plans posted in each room, children leave the building accompanied by their teachers, who also bring the classroom pack and sign-in sheet.
Please post the "fire drill in progress" sign on a door.
At the designated outdoor meeting place, the director or disaster drill coordinator will meet each class and call roll before the class returns to its yard or room.
Earthquake Drills
Earthquake drills are carried out once monthly.
At the first tremor, staff are to say loudly and firmly, "Earthquake!". She/he then drops and covers, wherever she/he is, and verbally encourages/helps all those children nearby to do the same. It is imperative that the adults protect themselves first in order to be available to help the children after the quake is over.
- The lead teacher and or associate teacher in the absence of the lead will decide whether to go outside (if you were inside at the time of the quake). You do not automatically go outside unless she/he decides, based on whether or not there has been and serious structural damage necessitating going outside.
- Follow the plan listed on the emergency evacuation list. Ex: teacher responsible for taking roll, calling parents, etc.
- If evacuation to a site other than the one listed is decided upon by Caltech personnel, then signs must be posted at your entrances informing parents of the new location.
- The bulk of the emergency supplies are located in the emergency sheds, one on each side of the street (East and West locations - Diagram 22)
